Augmented Reality (AR) has emerged as an interfacing technology with which human collaborates with Artificial Intelligence (AI). AR has been successfully applied to various industries such as medical surgery, entertainment, marketing, and education. It also has a great potential in modern manufacturing environment, serving as a highly interactive human machine interface (HMI).This talk introduces two on-going case studies of using AR to enable smart manufacturing. The first case involves an AR assisted assembly system. The system facilitates a human operator to assemble 3D parts by displaying guidance instructions in the real scene in a timely manner. The second case describes a novel AR application that guides a human operator to accomplish a manual grinding operation with instant instructions by monitoring and adapting to the operation conditions. As demonstrated in those two, AR enables real-time collaborations between human and artificial intelligence in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0.

瞿志行教授目前任教于台湾清华大学工业工程系,于台湾大学获得机械工程学士与硕士学位,之后获得美国柏克莱加州大学机械工程博士学位,主修制造工程及副修电脑科学。工作经验包括德国戴姆勒宾士公司研究实习、美国Autodesk公司软件工程师与维吉尼亚理工大学助理教授,亦曾经担任过德国亚琛工业大学、韩国成均馆大学、美国柏克莱加州大学与戴维斯加州大学访问学者,目前担任英国利物浦大学荣誉兼任教授,以及台湾高速电脑与网路中心合聘研究员,与中国工业工程学会学术委员会召集人。瞿教授研究兴趣在于电脑辅助设计与制造、扩增实境与智慧制造,曾荣获台湾国科会吴大猷纪念奖与科技部杰出研究奖,以及2012 ISPC与2015 IEEE IEEM会议之最佳论文,已发表英文研究论文超过200篇,并参与IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (SCI), International Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (SCI), International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing (SCI), IJPEM: Green Technology (SCI), Frontiers in Engineering (EI)等国际期刊的编辑工作,以及Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering (E-SCI)的主编。
