报告题目: Chaotic Vibration of the Wave Equation on a 2D Rectangular Domain

报告摘要: There has been considerable discussions and publications of the chaotic vibration cases for the wave equation on a 1D interval subject to certain nonlinear boundary conditions. However, very little is known when the spatial dimension is two.

In this talk, the speaker will present heuristic discussions about a simple two dimensional case of a rectangular domain. First, the wave propagation method using wave functions will be introduced. Then we will set up an ansatz for the solution when nonlinearities are present on the boundary. Some supporting numerical examples will be presented. The ultimate objective is to use Fourier analysis to establish chaos and to visualize the chaotic patterns of 2D vibrations.
